News about Air Bag Recall

 

Hi Ladies and Gentlemen, we are now ready to start repairing all of the 'Wings affected by the Air Bag Recall. Please see below the latest Customer Letter that will be sent to the owners of all affected units.

Our records indicate that you are the current owner of a Honda GL1800 Goldwing bearing the following VIN:*************

What is the Reason for this Notice?

Based on the determination by Takata that a safety related defect exists in air bag inflators, Takata and Honda Motor Co., Ltd has determined that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2008 to 2010 model year GL1800 Goldwing units. The propellant wafers in some of the subject inflators may degrade over time, which could lead to over-aggressive combustion in the event the air bag activated. Overly aggressive combustion creates excessive internal pressure when the inflator activated, which may cause the inflator body to rupture. In the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material possibly causing serious injury or fatality. WE ARE NOW READY TO START REPAIRING CUSTOMER UNITS and to remedy this problem. Honda will, at no cost to you, replace the airbag module with a countermeasure part on all affected GL1800 Goldwing motorcycles.

What should you do?

Call any authorised Honda motorcycle dealer and make an appointment to have your motorcycle repaired. This repair requires around 2 hours to complete, therefore, you may need to leave your motorcycle with the dealership for around one day, depending on scheduling. Honda will also contact you by phone and send an email (in cases where we have this information) to owners.

Our records indicate that you are the current owner of a GL1800 Goldwing covered by this recall campaign.
