August Update
OK – Here’s the scoop!! As you will all be aware the N.S.W. Govt. has also bought a share in proceedings in terms of changing the laws regarding ages of pillion passengers. Effectively, what this means is that the only way you can carry a child under the age of eight years old on a motorcycle is to carry them in a sidecar. (no ifs, buts or conditions, that’s it!) Needless to say this complicates arrangements that we’ll be making with the organizations hosting the Snowy Ride Kids and their families. We originally thought we would be dealing with some limitations with numbers of bikes in our contingent (and that’s one change, but we have the additional problem of trying to provide an increased number of sidecars (how many depends entirely on the age mix of the children who’ll be attending this year) At this stage, finite numbers of participants both on our side of the equation and details about this years “Snowy Ride kids” are simply not available. So, in the best traditions of “boot it high and follow through” lets set up the preliminaries and then we’ll be in the best possible position to do the very best we can later this year. As indicated earlier, there are to be some limits on numbers. Accordingly, we’re proposing setting up a “Friday crew” and a “Saturday crew” this is so all you eager helpers get the opportunity to interact with the children. We would imagine the Friday crew will consist of our regular early attendees and anyone else who is planning to be in Jindabyne Thursday night or first thing Friday morning. They’ll do the bus thing, the ride thing etc etc on Friday and then be free to do their own thing until 3.30 pm on Saturday. The Saturday crew will get to do the bus thing, the ride thing and maybe something extra (cause Saturdays always start slower). The one time we’ll need everybody is at the beginning of the Mass Ride at 3.30pm on Saturday afternoon. The only variable at this stage is that depending on the number of small children (under 8yrs) the sidecars might be busy the whole time! - we’ll just have to wait and see.- What we need everyone to do now is register your interest with Graham or Greg O’Loughlin. If you can let us know if you’re planning to participate this year and when you’ll be available that would be a big help. If you have a sidecar and will be joining us we’d particularly like to hear from you ! Sorry to be asking for commitments early but your committee does have to be organized and confident of delivering whatever we promise to the organizers. We do hope that you won’t be put off by our need for some details and we hope that you’re all planning to be a part of this great event. Please note November 7, 8 & 9 as the dates for this year. The Snowy Ride website has been updated (you can now do your on line entry) and get all the info about this year’s event. www.snowyride.com.au - Check it out!! Accommodation is your own responsibility. The majority of our contingent stay in Jindabyne and we are happy to endorse: Sonnblick Lodge, Enzian Lodge OR The Banjo Patterson Hotel ph. (02) 6456 2372 That’s all for now! Please mark November 7th, 8th & 9th 2008 in your diaries! “ The Snowy Ride , the best thing you’ll ever do with your GoldWing” For any information about the event or our participation please contact:
